Aloha from the Big Island of Hawaii! We Are Ocean People.

We live on the island of Hawaii, in the middle of the sea. We love it here. And we depend on cheap oil to fuel the ocean transportation that brings us everything we need: energy, food, goods, and tourists.

We’ve pondered that a lot. Cheap oil may last awhile longer. But we’ve already seen gas and diesel get into the $5-plus-per-gallon price range twice since 2010. Also, living at the end of a supply chain that is entirely fueled by cheap oil is not very green, climate-conscious, nor ecologically supportable.

We decided to do something to make our islands more independent from the cost of oil and its availability (or lack of it), and to help stop or reverse climate change.

Imagine that Hawaii’s residents are all on a big ocean liner; everyone is having a great time. We stroll around and notice the liner has no lifeboats. Well, you don’t actually need them until the ship sinks, and what’s the likelihood of that? And what’s the likelihood of cheap oil becoming so expensive we can’t afford to fly inter-island, or import half the goods we currently do?

So, we’re building lifeboats for the state of Hawaii. The logic is simple: if you have lifeboats ready before you need them, that is a good thing. If you need them and don’t have them, you in trouble, mon.

We’re a family of boatbuilders, fishers, and sailors. Our mission is to save the world, stop or reverse human-created climate change, and provide small island and coastal communities everywhere with affordable water transportation.

We think someone needs to start doing something now. So we are.

So what are our lifeboats? They’re literally boats!

We’re designing and building carbon-negative boats that run on no fuel, but use wind instead, from simple two-man fishing sailboats 18 feet long up to 180 foot long interisland cargo and passenger carriers.

The logic is simple: diesel will always cost money, but the wind is free!
